Unfortunately, earlier in the week I had to make an unplanned visit to the emergency room at I guess what is now called Mercy South…I remember it as St. Anthony’s and it’s going to be years before I get on board with the change. Fun fact, I was born @ St. Anthony’s.
Anyway, I was in pretty bad shape. And, the only thing I could really think about was my buyers and sellers. The real estate market moves with or without me, and these people needed a high level of service while I was out. I knew one family that was looking forward to seeing some houses on Tuesday. I was to meet with a seller on Tuesday morning. I had some paperwork to clean up for an offer on Wednesday. The thing was, I wasn’t going to be able to do any of these things. I was stuck in a hospital bed in the ER and even walking was looking pretty dicey at the moment.
Luckily, I have put together a team. I call it a hybrid team, because our agents all work on the same team, but they can also work independently of each other. This allows us to help each other when things happen. You might have noticed that real estate agents work odd hours, and sometimes we actually like to see our family in the evenings so the hybrid team really helps all of us with some sort of work-life balance.
Is your real estate agent part of a team? If they get sick, or worse, who is there to help you buy or sell your home? If you are working with someone in a large office, chances are you aren’t going to be helped by anyone until that agent gets back from wherever they are. Does this sound like a great idea for you? It doesn’t sound so great to me.
When interviewing agents, just ask them what would happen if they weren’t able to conduct business. Things happen to all of us. My buyers and sellers are going to be fine, but you might not be as lucky if you choose to work with that real estate loner.
