Intro: I’ve learned some things
1. Editing and I are not friends with my computer…..it takes forever, and that’s why I don’t do it.
2. There are channel experts everywhere on YouTube…oddly enough, the vast majority of channel experts are affiliates to channel view SEO companies…..it’s not wrong or right…I just don’t care to use something biased…so if we stay small, that’s just the way it will be.
Confession:
1. I never thought I would have 50 Episodes! I originally started working on the podcast 3 years ago…I did test episodes and they were so bad that I was embarrassed….so bad that I wasn’t sure I would ever even try again and I deleted them. I ended up changing the background completely, and I changed the format. This time, everything sort of came together. Not sure why.
2. I’m enjoying building a community much more than I would have thought….I feel a sense of accomplishment when I get an episode published.
3. I avoid some stories. I typically won’t do stories on neighbor murder…it’s sad…not funny. Real Estate agents are definitely at a risk for their safety showing homes, so I would do a story on real estate violence…but to inform…not because it’s funny. It’s quite scary. Stories on race relations or sexual orientation or heavy politics are also considered very carefully before I will do one. These principles are problematic to the format on YouTube…where I would most likely be rewarded if I threw bombs all over the place…..after all, the more anger and controversy, the better engagement…. That’s not really who I am and I’m uncomfortable with using larger societal issues/problems for my own benefit. I want to keep things light and have fun.
Trivia!
1. What was the least viewed episode out of the first 49? That would be episode 20….Scallion Thief. It was a rather heartwarming story from Asia about a neighbor who had stollen scallions, the controversial court case…primarily resources used…, and then the owner statement with regards to her scallion neighbor thief, saying….”the thief should have just asked for the scallions…and as her neighbor, I would have just given them to her”
2. Between men and women, who do you think my main audience is so far?
78% are men. That’s the statistic YouTube gives me. I don’t believe it…..I certainly would have thought it much closer to 50/50
3. What is my average view duration for the channel? 1 minute 37 seconds….most of my videos are around10 minutes….so that’s not great
4. What is the top age demographic so far? 25-34 Am I surprised? Somewhat. I’m thankful anyone is watching, but to be watched by a younger demographic humbles me. Oddly enough, no one in the 45-54 age group watches me. Makes you wonder if there’s just more young people watching YouTube
Where do we go from here?
1. Subscriber count is pathetic. The count is pathetic, but my subscribers mean the world to me. We aren’t going to stay at 29 forever….and I hope you come with me on the journey to 50, 100, 1000, who knows? We have to get this number up.
2. I’m probably going to pull the frame.
3. I might change out the microphone…
4. I might cut the intro down and move the intro to the outro.
5. I’m fighting some things…
a. I don’t want to be sponsored by any company…in video promotions, etc. If I mention a product or a service, know that it comes with no affiliate revenue or sponsorship revenue. Should that change in the future, I will tell you ahead of time.
b. YouTube is all about catchy thumbnails and clickbait titles. I don’t want to do it. There’s only two ways I can go though. I can do no clickbait titles, but then I need my subscribers to tell their friends to subscribe so we don’t have to depend on organic search, or I have to go clickbait on my titles. Please don’t make me go clickbait.
c. I like to tell a story or discuss something from beginning to end. I DON’T want to use tricks like saying I have a super important announcement at the end of the video just so you watch until the end. Another thing to do is number every video by countdown. So something like 10 things wrong about buying your house in spring…But I will. I don’t want to.
6. I have seen a ton of real estate channels, and no one is watching them. Why? It’s because no one cares about real estate tips or tricks if you aren’t actively looking to buy or sell a home. I get that. So we definitely aren’t a real estate specific channel….we branch out. We talk about neighbors, terrible real estate agents, terrible real estate deals….reactions to things I see online. You can help though. Put a comment in the comment section below. Send me your bad neighbor or agent stories.
7. We are going to livestream.
