Thoughts/Questions
1. Neighbor has an exotic bird that cries incessantly. The bird cries for hours.
2. The bird used to be kept inside, but now it’s kept outside in a tent. Wonder why? I’m sure it’s the weather.
3. The neighbor talked to the bird owner…How does that conversation go? Hey man, your bird is kinda annoying. Could you, maybe, just get rid of it or something? How is it different than a barking dog? What do you sign up for when living in a neighborhood?
4. Call your municipality…they come out and say, great news, the bird is in wonderful shape and there’s nothing they can do…but there is a law against habitual animal noise…the neighbor needs to file a complaint…as if calling animal control and telling them about this, having them go out there and look at it isn’t enough?
5. How bad is the noise? A neighbor on another street hears it.
6 Let’s assume our annoyed neighbor kills the bird. The article would read, Crazy neighbor kills bird…and we would all look down on the bird murderer….Or, a Gobble the Turkey situation…animal control murders the bird in front of the neighborhood with a shiv after an errant shot….
7. What is the solution? How do these neighbors live in peace? Put the bird back in the house? In two of these exotic pets cases we’ve seen the animals have been kept outside…
8. I’m not anti exotic pet. But, there has to be some recognition that if you live in a neighborhood, you should probably choose a pet that isn’t annoying. For example, you get a rabbit, keep it inside, no one is having issues. If you want an exotic pet, maybe move to a more rural area?
9. What about an HOA? Would an HOA have this restriction in their rules? So would that be a reason to live in a place with an HOA?
