Thoughts/Questions
1. City roads, HOA approved lease … Apparently without the city knowing?
2. Mayor Response “We in the city of Lakeway, and as U.S. citizens, do not have a custom of around-the-clock surveillance. … Having such a system, if it’s going to be installed, ought to be a matter of public discussion.”
Is that true? Are we being surveilled all the time and we just don’t know it?
3. Camera company works with HOA’s around the country and usually puts them on private property, not city property…Did you know your HOA had a camera system? Do you care?
4. $2,500 per camera per year and there were 8 cameras=20,000 per year and no one knew about it?
5. COO of the HOA said system was presented to the HOA with the endorsement of the police department….the police chief resigned. They will remove the cameras
6. “This system is a tool and any tool given to a law enforcement officer needs to make sure they are properly trained,” he said. “We find ourselves with a surveillance system and no policies, procedures or protection.”
What an odd thing: The city rejects the use of the cameras due to training and not the idea of cameras in general.
Would you want your HOA to lease security cameras?
Do they make communities safer?
How would one quantify that?
