Dear John
I was reading an advice column, and I thought we might go through it
a. Single mom in her late 40’s…children have moved out
b. Neighbor, 24, divorced with young daughter
c. 40 year old mom likes to garden in peace
d. 24 year old mom comes over to vent.
e. 40 year old is not interested in these vent sessions…just wants to garden.
Abby says to tell the 24 year old to find someone else to vent to…what do you think?
Thoughts/Questions
1. I like working in the yard. But I don’t mind if neighbors come over. As long as they know I’m working.
2. Do you have an obligation to listen to your neighbor? What if they come over to tell you that they saw a strange person lurking at your house the night before?
3. Is it possible that this 24 year old doesn’t have anyone in her life at this point and the 40 year old is literally the only thing keeping her from losing it? Is that the neighbor’s problem?
4. Are you selfish if you just want peace in your backyard? Or did you sign up for whatever noises, children, construction, etc. when you decided to move into a neighborhood?
Last night real estate story
I was doing a walk through with my buyers last night. It was scheduled for 6 p.m. I happened to get there early so I waited in the car. About 2 minutes before 6, the neighbor, an older lady, went out on her porch and positioned her chair facing right at the house we were walking through. There was some shrubbery between the houses, but you could make out the outline and hear everything.
She stayed on the porch seemingly staring the whole time we were at the house….it was awkward.
1. Was she spying for the sellers?
2. What should we have done? If anything at all?
Just curious as to what you would do.
